NEW Exhibition "Paintings & Sculptures"
Karlito is a creative force to be reckoned with. Although painting remains his primary forte, he has also forayed into the diverse worlds of sculpture, prose, poetry, and DJing.
Before immersing himself in the world of art, Karlito dedicated twenty years of his life to the operating theatres in both the NHS and Australia. A significant turning point came in 2005, when he was diagnosed with stress-related schizophrenia. As he navigated the challenges of deteriorating mental health and subsequent institutionalisation, Karlito found solace in artistic expression. He immersed himself in poetry, producing an impressive collection of nearly 100 poems during this period.
Aligning with the ROAR art collective marked a defining chapter in his life, where he wholeheartedly adopted the moniker of a "creative" over "artist," Karlito believes it encapsulates the vast expanse of his creative endeavours without boxing him in.
His impeccable talent didn't go unnoticed. The Institute of Mental Health in Nottingham commissioned a significant painting from him, which now adorns their main entrance. With several art gallery features under his belt, Karlito is also gearing up to publish his poetry collection as an ebook. His DJing skills have set the stage alight in three clubs, even securing him a residency in one. While digital art has been his mainstay, he's now dabbling in AI-generated artwork and is fascinated by the outcomes.
Karlito’s inspirations are rich and varied. Drawing heavily from the 1920s Dadaists, he pioneered the 'polemic analytic expressionism' movement. It delves deep into expressing political analysis through art. Conceptual art and pieces carrying deep messages resonate with him the most. He has immense respect for Banksy's thought-provoking pieces and is an admirer of Eminem’s musical prowess.
For enthusiasts eager to witness his creations firsthand, Karlito is showcasing a new exhibition featuring his paintings and sculptures at the thirdspace gallery from 14th to 25th August. Don't miss it!
