New Member Project: The Return
Inspired by ‘The Return of the Beavers’ Film
Project Brief: The Return
The next ROAR member project invites you to respond to the theme ‘The Return’ in your own unique, creative way. As always, this is an open-ended brief that encourages you to explore the concept of return in any context or form that resonates with you. Whether inspired by personal experiences, historical events, nature, mythology, or abstract ideas, we want to see how you interpret this evocative theme.
The Creative Spark: Return of the Beaver
To help ignite your imagination, we’re hosting an exclusive screening of the documentary Return of the Beaver. This captivating film tells the story of the beaver’s reintroduction to South Yorkshire, highlighting themes of biodiversity recovery, natural flood management, and ecological transformation.
Join us for the screening to explore how the return of this industrious species is reshaping local landscapes, addressing environmental challenges, and sparking hope for the future.
Screening Details:
📅 When: Saturday, 25th January 2025, 2pm
📍 Where: Theatre, ROAR Artspace, Westgate Chambers, Westgate, Rotherham, S60 1AN
We hope this film will serve as a jumping-off point for this new project brief. How does ‘The Return’ resonate with you?
This brief is deliberately broad to allow for diverse interpretations. However, if you need a little more inspiration, here are some potential directions to explore:
Ecological renewal: What does the return of nature mean to you?
Personal journeys: Reflect on the idea of coming back to a place, a memory, or an identity.
Cultural or mythological returns: How do stories of return manifest across different traditions and narratives?
Cycles and continuity: Consider the cyclical patterns of life, death, growth, and regeneration.
There are no limits to how you can respond. You might create a painting, sculpture, installation, performance, written piece, or something entirely unexpected. Use this opportunity to push boundaries and explore your creativity. The WhatsApp group will be open to all (email us if you want to be added) and some lively collaborations have come about in the last few projects.
