I work with both traditional analogue relief printmaking and digital mark making processes. A typical creative day in the studio will involve moving between using cutting and engraving tools to drawing on a digital graphics tablet. Consequently, analogue and digital worlds will cross pollinate in the creation of the final rendering of an image.

In terms of influence on my imagery, I regularly look back and study the early illustration works of wood cutters and engravers. I love the black and white wordless graphic novels of the 1930’s. I’m also drawn into the worlds created by the English illustrators such as Eric Ravilious and Edward Bawden.

I’m interested in storytelling, which has led me into discovering sequential art and animation. I work regularly as an illustrator and animator with writers and musicians on collaborative projects and continue to work freelance as an art educator. I’m currently a research PhD student with the Northern Film School, Leeds Beckett University, where I’m developing an experimental graphic novel/animation.
